Gipping Valley Path Alongside Gateway 14 and Muntons Complex at Stowmarket Upgraded

Upgrades to a section of the Gipping Valley Path in Stowmarket has been completed helping to increase plant life and wildlife as well as improving public access along the river.

The improvements to the footpath running alongside the River Gipping next to the Cedars Maltings site of Muntons, is part of the developments at Gateway 14 which has started on site this year.

The path benefits from a new surface and a 2-metre fence alongside the boundary of the maltings.

The path is part of the 17-mile Gipping Valley River Path, running from Stowmarket railway station, meandering south to Ipswich, before meeting the River Orwell. The improvements to the path are just some of the measures being taken to improve access and encourage sustainable travel to and around the site and has been delivered in a partnership between Gateway 14 and Muntons. The river path upgrade was managed by site development manager Jaynic.

Gateway 14, which will feature a combination of business, logistics and innovation developments, is being developed by Gateway 14 Ltd (wholly owned by Mid Suffolk District Council) and Jaynic. The site received planning consent last November with work starting on site this year, and its first major occupier, home, garden and leisure products retail company, The Range, has already been signed up for a distribution centre approaching 1.2m sq ft.

Jason Newman, construction director at Jaynic, said:

“These improvements are making a positive contribution to the local area and community. Walking offers numerous health benefits to people of all ages and fitness levels, and this path is an excellent amenity for Stowmarket.”

Sir Christopher Haworth, chair, Gateway 14 commented:

“Gateway 14 will deliver significant economic benefits to Stowmarket and the surrounding area and it is important that we consider active and sustainable travel as a key part of the infrastructure within and around the site.

Cllr Susie Morley, leader, Mid Suffolk District Council added:

“Mid Suffolk District Council is committed to supporting green travel across the district and we have made sure that walking, cycling and public transport are central to the development at Gateway 14.”
