Following pre-application discussions with Lewes District Council and the County Highway Authority, we led a programme of public engagement with local residents and Town/District Councillors.
An outline planning application was submitted and subsequently approved on 6th September 2017, subject to SOS review and finalising a Section 106 agreement. In October 2017, the Secretary of State resolved not to call in the planning application and the Section 106 agreement was concluded to enable formal planning permission to be issued.
The development comprises 167 new-build private and affordable homes, with the original school building being converted into 16 characterful apartments. The development will also provide a sports pitch and changing rooms, public open space, a children’s play area and extensive landscaping. The strong local demand from end purchasers is indicative of the acute shortage of housing in this area of Sussex.
The land was sold to Bellway in November 2018 following a competitive tender process.
"JAYNIC worked diligently in securing planning permission for 183 units on this former private school site. Together with their professional team, they successfully navigated an often challenging planning process, keeping us fully updated throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending JAYNIC to other landowners looking to capitalise on the potential in their land"
